Final Project - Eli Shovan

I wanted to capture the idea that particularly strong feelings and negative emotions can affect the way we see the world and, in change, the way the world sees us as a person. A lot of times we never see people struggling, we only see their smiles. There are a lot of times where I find myself feeling that I have little effect on the world around me, that I'm a shell of myself, a ghost. I'm not the only person that struggles with this, and I wanted to create a series of images that force the viewer to ponder the emotions I'm creating in these photographs.

final project-mailee carr

                                            Project statement
This project is about how as time passes, memories slowly fade away or become distorted. I show this through taking pictures and making them deteriorate from the original by using photoshop. First, I take the subject out of the original picture and put it into a new page. Then I make a copy of the subject. Next, you add mask layers on both the original and the copy as well as moving the bottom layer. Usually expanding it to make it fit where you want it then you use the paint bucket to paint the mask layer black. Then go to the mask layer that’s white and use different brushes to make the subject disappear. Finally, you go to the black mask layer  and paint it with white to make the subject appear. If the expanded layer is too dark, I add a level just above the black layer to brighten the expanded subject.

Final Project - Heather Pecora

Station 16 Respond to….
I have a passion for things dangerous,
Challenging, thrilling, and rewarding.
It gets me out of bed at midnight,
And makes me leave everything
At a moment’s notice.
There is nothing quite like it,
Being a volunteer firefighter.

The firefighter in all of the images
Inspired me to begin this
journey with him, and I am proud to
call him my husband.
Each set of coordinates represents
A place that I have grown.
With each fire there is a
Lesson to be learned.
In an instant, anyone’s world
Can be turned upside down.
The glass orb in the center
Inverts the firefighter in the image.
When you are going in to save a life,
You see things in black and white.
Your mind must focus on the task,
Every other thought fades away.

When I hear “Station 16 respond to…”
Come over that little black pager,
I begin a new adventure.

Final book-Elizabeth Butterfield

The Lost Souls
This book conveys a story of two lost people coming together after a long journey. I used sidewalk cracks as a path for them find each other once again. The people are made of stick figures I found online, and cut out to travel along the cracks. The one that is on a snow globe is supposed to shows a 3D version and the other one is a 2D version. I did two versions to convey two different cultures. Eventually, they come together again after many years. I made it black and white to make it seem like an old movie or to tell a story that happened in the past. These two characters were separated when they were very young. They were separated from their parents who moved away them away form each other. Even though the people were young they never forgot each other. Both having run away from their homes after finally getting in touch again. Finally they came together.

Lonesome

Depression

Even when apart we were never alone.

Not all who get separated lose each other

Not all who get separated lose each other

Love causes sacrifices

Distance doesn't define our relationship

I dropped a tear the day we got ripped apart

Love alone is worth the fight

The crazy thing about love is that you never grow apart no matter the distance

The thing about love is that you could be sad and no matter what they will always make you happy even if you are apart

Never give up even if the distance is rough

Distance only makes the heart grown fonder. ~Alex Davis

We were so far apart but finally together again
