The Lasso
Photo Shop gives you three different Lasso tools to use. If you look on the left side you will see a tool bar with an icon button that will look like a lasso. By clicking on it, three different Lasso's will appear. Depending on what you plan to do with the Lasso will depend on which one to choose. The Lasso is a great tool to use when you want to copy another picture onto the exisiting picture.
1. Standard Lasso-This Lasso is a freehand Lasso, simply take your mouse and draw around the area you wish to select. Similar to how you would outline an object with pen and paper. Simply click on the spot where you wish to begin and hold down the mouse and drag the cursor to draw around the area. To complete your selection simply return to the spot in which you started and release your mouse button. Since the Lasso relies on your drawing skills the Lasso will often fall short of perfect.
2. Polygonal Lasso-Begin by clicking along the edge of the object or area you need to select, then release the mouse button. As you move the cursor you will see a straight line will apper, click agian to creat another point and release. This will attach both points. Once you have made your way around the object or area a small circle will appear underneath the icon this means that you are close enough to the starting point. Once the object is selected you can go open up the image you wish to place in the selected area. Press command+c to copy the image, then go to the top of the screen and click on image and go to Paste Into. This places the second photo directly in the area selected.
3. Magnetic Lasso-Is an edge detecting tool, meaning it automatically searches for the edge of the object as you move the mouse. This tool is the easiest to use especially for hard edges. Simply move the mouse around the object and the Magnetic Lasso will cling to the edge. To apply the picture do the same steps as stated above.
