Burn and dodge tools
The dodge and burn tools have to do with exposure in small
areas. Dodge is used to lighten up a specific part of the photograph, such as
lighten up eyes or teeth. The Burn tool
is used to create shadows such as adding definition to face or muscles. The tool
in general can be used for various reasons but it always has to do with the variation
of the exposure you want.
In the upper left hand corner you can adjust your brush size
and style of how the effect will be applied, the hardness of the effect, what
light group you are going to work with and want to change including highlights,
mid-tones and shadows and how much exposure you are working with. Chances are
you won’t want the exposure to ever be very high unless you want a very high
contrast from the original.
