The Paths We Walk

In life, we must make many decisions. Each decision we make, sends us down a path. Each person must choose the path they want to be on, some find they are on similar paths but none are the exactly same. At each stage of our life our path looks different and the shoes we choose to wear change as well.

Through this project I wanted to encapsulate the different paths people take and the shoes people wear while on them. Sometimes when making the hard decisions it is dificult to see the whole road; we can only see a few feet in front of us; But we have to just keep moving forward and do our best. All of us at one point will look down the road and choose to continue or switch to one we like better. We also might switch the shoes we wear. Our shoes, like the path shows other people a little bit about who we are, and who we want to be. Philip Sweet once said “Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not clichés but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path.” We must look at are decisions that we make and make sure the put us on the path we want with the shoes we choose.

Maturity

As we age we change and develop a maturity that is common and an expectation for an adult to possess. I wanted to capture different aged subject, set in a similar situation, to capture and experience what the difference of a few years can do to a subject.

I gave all of my subjects five words, and it was up to them to interpret the word and pose for a photo that would resemble that word. I found that some words came more easily to some ages than others did. It was easy for to get silly pictures of the kids, because they have a more imaginative nature and were jumpy throughout the photo shoot. Whereas, it more difficult to loosen up the older subjects and I would only get one or two poses. It was simpler task to get a serious picture of the older subjects because of their maturity and natural seriousness.

Beauty and Durability of Old Houses

Artist Statement

Anymore old ideas and objects are undesirable which is why I chose to photograph them. Old houses whether they are cherished or not is a part of our culture. An inspiration of this project was my grandmother’s house, which is an old pioneer house. It’s beauty and durability has always amazed me that something so old can endure for over 150 years. This me wonder what are others house that will inspire me with their beauty and durability. During this process, I searched for houses with character that represent their own style in beauty and durability.  This makes me wonder what can we as human beings to become like the old houses. Will we feel cherished our entire life or will we allow ourselves to decay and be more and more desperate for love?

Now this series, Beauty and Durability of Old Houses, will show how being cherished can affect the homes for the better. This idea will hopefully mend your life for the better as it has mine.
