Final Project--Nikki Christensen

Have you ever been so caught up in your dreams that you got lost in the clouds? I have. It is so easy to focus on other, bigger, more important things that we forget the wonders of the world around us. Even when we do look at the world, we have a tendency to look up and out and around but what about down? What are we missing when we forget what is beneath our feet? What wonders is the world hiding? I wonder what would happen if we each took the challenge to get our heads out of the clouds and focus on the world at our feet? What would we notice that has gone unlooked for so long, what would we see that our feet trample over without a second glance? What would we discover that has really been there the entire time?

My work is about taking the small and making it big. I took macro shots in nature so as to find a way to get us back to the ground, get out of the clouds and see the earth for what it is: beautiful.

I started out only looking at the world around me and stumbled upon what my project became. I started with the obvious and photographed that, and then I was walking one day and I came across a tree, the tree was wonderful, full of life and adventure, there was chaos and so many different things going on. The chaos brought life to the tree, the bark went off in random patterns, many leaves had just fallen into the nooks and crannies of the tree and there was dirt and grime and grit everywhere. That experience started it all. That was the inspiration for what is to come.
