Artist Statement - Kassidy Barker

My photography has always been about the simple things. Finding beauty and meaning from a picture that has little context is something that I have tried to capture with the people or objects I photograph. For me these pictures exemplify that. The black and white effect that each of these pictures have creates the mood for the person in it. While each person varies from a more serious look to a smile and are positioned differently, this leaves the viewer unable to know exactly what that person is thinking. It is from their expression and the black and white effect that leaves room for you, as the viewer, to use your imagination. My main goal with these pictures was to capture the emotion and feelings and allow room to create your own ideas about what each of these people could be feeling. I enjoy the simple things and for me this was the best way to portray that.
